My friend Travis and I were laughing as I reminisced about the many mishaps I’ve seen in my life over these last ___ years (intentionally left blank because you wouldn’t believe me, anyway). Our conversation went something like this:
“Ever been shot, Blackie?”
“No, Travis,” I respond. “That isn’t among my experiences, though plenty of folks are willing to help change that.”
I then proceed to cite mishaps that ARE in my repertoire, and my friend laughs in surprise. “You need to write those stories, Blackie!”
“To help us. To help others – the teachers, doctors, parents, siblings and spouses – understand you … you and the many others with ADHD who walk around in a different world that we just can’t begin to understand.”
“Nobody would believe the stories, Travis.”
“Write ’em, anyway. Just as they happened. So we’ll know what’s going through your mind. So we’ll know what’s going through the minds of other people who struggle to fit in but are unable to explain why they don’t. Write ’em, all of ’em.”
That’s why I started this blog. I hope you will join me in sharing your own stories. Share them so we laugh together. Share them so others are inspired to do the same. Share them so we live life to the max.
Get in. Sit down. Buckle up. Hang on. Welcome to our world.
